Baby Countdown, and a BIG OL' CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY!

Ahhh...

December 1st.

A new season.

Fall is now morphing into an opaque brown color, all over. Gloomy skies, and chilly wind breaks any form of comfort, when leaving the house, and rushing to get to the car. Dreary days, met with evenings where I swear it feels like 9 p.m., and only typically is 5:47 p.m., thanks to Daylight Savings Time.

December also begins a series of countdowns for us.

Counting down the days until the Christmas Giveaway, counting down the days until Baby #6 gets here, and counting down the days until CHRISTMAS!

It's weird how November seems to draaaaaaaaag on, and then BAM! We only have a few short weeks, until Christmas!

As I'm preparing for all of our countdowns, I'm overwhelmed with a feeling of gratefulness, not feeling prepared "enough", trying to nest on my home, finish school with the kids, not go into labor, as well as, try and drink enough water, be a good friend, wife, and Mom. *Gulp.*

Honestly, if I'm not careful, I can really start to feel like I'm not enough.

That overwhelming lie can quickly sweep in, especially around this very BUSY season.

Will I pick out all the right gifts?

Will we get school finished?

Will I remember to do the advent countdown?

Will I have my house done, by the time the baby gets here?

All of those questions, swirling around, and the pressure to get it all done in 25 short days.

WHEW.

What an overwhelming, and unrealistic view on what December 1st should feel like.

Today, in my Mom's Connect Group, we were challenged with the question:

Are we pursuing to make our children happy, or holy?

Likewise, our we pursuing our own happiness, or humbly seeking holiness?

Holiness is quiet.

It cause everything to go slooooowly.

It's when we rest. When we say enough of the hustle and bustle.

Even though the business of Christmas isn't necessarily a bad thing, is it the best thing? Rather than trying to pick the *perfect* gift, for the list of loved ones, that gets longer every year, am I focusing on truly pouring into them, in all the days leading up to Christmas?

I'm a visual person, and to me, holiness feels like that first snow of the season.

You know when you're up before everyone else, and the sun is beginning to rise. You peer through the window, to beautiful, big snowflakes trickling down from the sky. You allow your eyes to follow them all the way down, until they reach their final destination. As if someone laid a beautiful, fluffy, white blanket down, and covered up all the opaque brown, and there is beauty, again. My favorite memory of every single snow we've ever received, was stepping outside, and feeling an overwhelming, peaceful silence, from the first snow. So silent you can actually hear the snowflakes as the brush softly onto the gutter, or the ground. Or when the wind blows, the trees crackle, as each limb hits the next, covered in ice.

Peace.

That's what I'm challenged by. That peaceful feeling, throughout this busy month, so that I don't let my checklists get in the way of our home feeling at peace. My checklists will get done, the shopping lists will get taken care of, and this precious baby will get here, whether my floors are scrubbed, or not.

And that's my challenge to you: What are you pursuing, this holiday season? What do you want your children to pursue? What is the overwhelming tone that fills your walls?

My prayer for you, this year, is that your home would be filled with peace.

Last, but not least, an AMAZING giveaway from The Giving Manger:

A Complete Box Set, to add to your Christmas decor, at home!

The beautiful Momma's behind The Giving Manger approached me, about wanting to do a giveaway, so I opened the Complete Box Set, which included:

We actually pulled out our very own Giving Manger, last night, read the story, and placed the manger in our Nativity Set! My kiddos were SO EXCITED to get started, that right after we told the story, and were getting ready for bed, Asher (age 4) went and served everyone a drink of water, before bed. He did it quietly, and didn't say anything other than "Here's your drinks of water, guys!" Then Khai (age 7) pointed out that Asher was the first to serve, so therefore should get to put the first piece of straw in the manger. It was a pretty special moment, as Mark lifted him up, to put the piece of straw in the manger.

Remember that whole "I want to have peace in my home." thing I was talking about, above? That was a moment of peace. And it. was. precious. Seeing the delight on Asher's face, as his siblings were EXCITED for him, mixed with the wonder that filled everyone's imaginations, as they tried to think of creative ways to serve was EXACTLY what we are aiming for.

A peaceful, holy moment.

I am so so so excited to share this giveaway with you, so now for the rules:

1.) SHARE this blog post on Facebook!
2.) FOLLOW the 5 shops, and I, on Instagram!
3.) COMMENT BELOW: a special memory, from the Christmas season, that reminds you of a moment of peace.

My peaceful memory is how much I love going to my parents, on Christmas Eve. We go to the Christmas Eve service, and then we all pile into a vehicle, to drive through the huge Christmas Lights display, in our small town. The rest of the evening is spent playing board games with my siblings, and their families, and laughing about memories from our childhood! That's my peaceful Christmas memory.

SHARE, FOLLOW, and COMMENT BELOW! Winner will be announced in ONE WEEK! YAY!!!

  1. Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve is so beautiful and peaceful. The singing from the choir and all of the beautiful lights. We went every year while I was still living at home. It was a night that felt like anything was possible.

  2. My most peaceful Christmas memory is the one when we brought our first daughter home from the hospital on Christmas Day! We had prayed for years for baby and finally having her in our arms and in our home was an emotion that words can't describe.

  3. My favorite peaceful Christmas memory is spending time with family, attending Christmas Eve Service and worshiping our Lord. This year we were able to have a special Christmas memory today which was incredibly peaceful and it was feeling our first baby move inside my stomach. Such a precious moment that no words could ever describe!

  4. My favorite peaceful memory is driving over the mountains to my grandparents house where family would come from all over and get together to cook a nice meal. And then we’d sit in the living room around the tree and open presents/have fellowship. There was always snow over there and everything always felt warm and comforting. Unfortunately, most of them have gone to be with Jesus so it’s been a few years. But it’s something I’ll never forget!!

  5. Peaceful memories are always full of my family, making memories, and celebrating our Savior’s birth! (Also...didn’t post on fb bc I never get on there and don’t really do fb... is it ok if I share on Instagram? 6. I'd love to enter! I don't have Instagram or Facebook accounts, so would it be alright if I just shared it by email? One of my favorite Christmas memories is waking up on Christmas morning and reading the Bible first thing as a family. That's very special and peaceful. :)
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. My peaceful Christmas memory is all of my family sitting around the tree and reading the Christmas story from the Bible as we reflect on the greatest gift ever given.❤️

  9. My peaceful memory is from my childhood. We would all go to my grandmas for breakfast. And I as the only grandchild at the time had to wait patiently while the adults ate until u could get my stocking and open presents. Once everyone finished eating I would hand out stockings and presents. And we would go around one by one and open gifts. I miss those family Christmases, we haven’t had one in over 7 years!

  10. The most peaceful memory is the candlelight service with my family . It is still my favorite thing to do. Just to have those moments where the only focus is the birth of our Lord and the love and mercy He has shown to me, the peace in my heart is indescribable.
And another thing that brings me such joy is that my children still wait at the top of the steps on Christmas morning and all come down together , even though they are 27, 22, 19 and 16! I think they appreciate all the little family traditions we have made over the years .

  11. My most peaceful memory would have to be the quiet before all of the noisy family gatherings. I love my family, and certainly wouldn’t have them any other way, but I just love the quiet anticipation that happens snuggled on the couch by the lit tree, just reflecting on what exactly we are celebrating.

PS. Hopefully my entry still counts even though I don’t have Instagram or Facebook :)

  12. I am blessed to share that Christmas time brings so many memories of peace, love, worship and laughter. The peaceful memory that first comes to mind took place last year: the time I decorated a tree at my grandparents, as this was a task no longer easy for them. We enjoyed this special time and it is even more precious now that my Papaw will be celebrating his first Christmas in Heaven this year.

  13. Last year most of my little ones had been sick so it was just our little family of six celebrating at home. We missed being with all of our family but it was nice to spend the day together not having to go anywhere and just be together!

  14. One of my favorite memories is relaxing by the fireplace the night we decorated our tree. It was my son’s 1st Christmas and he was 4 months old, asleep on my chest. :) 2 of my favorite things, Christmas and baby snuggles

  15. My favorite peaceful memory was sitting there Christmas morning with our hot drinks, going around one by one opening our presents and not rushing, just enjoying the time together. The rest of our Christmas day is very hectic and crazy between going everywhere that we need to go. So that time together taking our time, was very peaceful!

  16. We do our Christmas traditions a little different. Coming from a divorced home we started having our Christmas on Christmas Eve when I was really little. I’ve now carried over those with my own family. Since we open gifts and such the night before, we get to be in serious prayer and reflection about what Christmas really means. The birth of Jesus! Christmas Day itself now is a day of love and peace.

  17. Going to Christmas eve service at our church! It's always a blessing to come together, hear the Bible read with all the little kids gathered around and singing praises to God! :-)

  18. The most peaceful Christmas memory for me is of my whole family being together. My mom and dad (are now divorced) my brother my cousin my aunt and uncle (also divorced) and my Nana and pawpaw. We used to spend so much time together. I had the best family. And Christmas was our favorite time together. We would spen Christmas Eve at my grandparents house. And even as kids me my brother and cousin always wanted to have Christmas Eve dinner before we opened presents. I loved my family so much. My pawpaw died of brain cancer in may 2012. And nothing has been the same sense. But I still have the memories of those sweet Christmas’ we had together.

Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family. Treasure the time you have together!

  22. the Lord has blessed us in so many ways. Christmas took on a new meaning In 2014. That was one of the hardest but most rewarding seasons of my life. We had gone for a gender reveal in April and learned that our baby girl had anencephaly. Not knowing what that meant, I googled it (don't ever do that) and was horrified, scared and very very sad. It was when the doctor came in and said we had options that I knew God was going to use her short life for so much more. I had no option but to carry our angel as long as God would allow. In August, she was born into his arms. Her little eyes were barley open. I've always found comfort in knowing she didn't get to see her mommy's face, but the face of God. That Christmas, even though we greatly missed our Sofia, we celebrated another birth. How amazing it would have been to have looked into the face of our Savior! Christmas has become even more special for our family. It's a time of rejoicing and family. It's a time we use to give a little more of ourselves as we celebrate a Christ who was born to give all for us. God has blessed us in so many ways. Thank you, Sierra for blessing others this season!

  23. I love how our family (of 6) celebrates Christmas Eve. We open 1 present under the tree that has new pjs and then we all cuddle up with blankets and watch a Christmas movie. It’s my favorite time of the Christmas season!

  24. On Christmas I breakfast with my family and then in the late afternoon one set of grandparents come over (after they come back to town from visiting my cousins) we open our presents and then the rest of BOTH sides of the family come and we have one big happy dinner! It's very peaceful being with family and I just love Christmas! ❤

  25. My favorite moment of peace is when the lights go out at our candle light eve service at church on Christmas Eve. The whole sanctuary is so quiet and as we begin singing & lighting our candles it’s a moment where I’m so thankful to take in this quiet moment of peace & really thank God for His perfect gift, Jesus.

  26. My favorite peaceful Christmas memory is waking up together on Christmas morning, opening presents together around the tree, eating a nice slow breakfast, and watching the parade together on tv. I just loved the peacefulness and calmness of that morning. We have continued that tradition with our kids and it is my favorite to spend that slow morning together, just the 5 of us.

  27. I have so many favorite Christmas memories because Christmas is my favorite, but I especially love seeing Christmas through my children’s eyes. I love seeing the joy, excitement and wonder on their faces. We do something special as a family each day leading up to Christmas and read our Jesus Storybook bible together. My favorite day activity is when my babies act out the Nativity. It’s just the best.

  28. Raised in the country by grandparents, after Thanksgiving I would walk out onto the front porch when it became dark. From there I could see the Christmas lights on the courthouse miles away. The night that I would see them for the first time of the season was magical. I new the Christmas season had officially begun.

  29. I remember a Christmas, years ago, when my grandmother was still on Earth. We sat out on the curb, looking in through the window at the Christmas tree lights. It's just such a special memory I have with her!

  30. I love your posts little girl and am so happy you have your sweet little family but still am enough of a momma's girl to go there for Christmas. My kids never had a Christmas that we didn't load the gifts in the car and head to my parents, sooner rather than later when possible.Such a gift we've been giving in our loving families. I sure appreciate having you in mine. Love you honey and kiss the rest of your tribe for me. And pray that FB finally unlocks my original fb acct, I don't want to lose all the pics and posts from 9 yrs. It doesn't seem like a big deal until you realize how many loving posts you've gotten.

  31. I was going ask if you knew of any books on singleness that you could recommend? I’m almost thirty, not married and I have no children. This is an area I’m really struggling in. Also, I’m from TN, but I’ve thought about eventually moving to NWA. I’ve heard great things about the area. I just wanted some input

  32. I give up... In Instagram in talking about a picture you used the words " brasche fasche glory". I have googled it with and without the word glory and instead of finding it in a dictionary it just goes to your instagram. Brasche in Italian is pondweeds. I did finally find the word "Fasche in German which shows it is Femininum. I am confused. Can you explain to us what the meaning is?
